We are living in an era defined by rapid technological advancements and unprecedented global interconnectedness. While statistics show tremendous strides in areas like poverty reduction, combating disease, and addressing social injustices, we also face complex new challenges brought about by these advancements. Technology has the potential to empower and elevate society, but it can also be used to perpetuate exploitation, suppress dissent, and disrupt international norms, with the most vulnerable populations bearing the brunt of these consequences.
AUCMUN is designed to offer each delegate an educational, challenging, and enjoyable experience while encouraging them to think critically about the interplay between technology and global society. More importantly, it aims to leave each participant with a deeper understanding of how technology shapes our world and their role within this landscape.
To truly grasp the nature of modern global challenges, we must explore how technology influences perspectives, decisions, and interactions. Conflicts and cooperative efforts alike often arise from differing visions of the role technology should play in our future. Whether it’s harnessing technology for sustainable development or addressing its ethical implications, every individual and group seeks to shape a world that aligns with their vision—and they will employ whatever means necessary to achieve it.
This year’s conference theme, “Guiding Technology Toward Global Good,” embodies this exploration. From debates on cybersecurity to discussions on equitable access to digital education and technological solutions to climate change, our 2024 session will provide a broad, engaging platform for delegates. Advanced participants will also have the opportunity to tackle specialized challenges and innovative problem-solving in committees that test their skills in realistic, tech-driven scenarios.
